Diverse events for the whole family
The image of the Ljubljana Castle would certainly be completely different today if, on 16 May 1905, the then mayor Ivan Hribar had not purchased it from the state authorities for 60,200 kroner. In this way, the castle became the property of the city of Ljubljana, thus saving it from further decay. The great visionary Ivan Hribar had big plans for the castle, which were finally realised more than a century later, when the castle became an important cultural centre of the Slovenian capital. In honour of the jubilee, we organise the annual Castle Days, which are taking place for the thirteenth time this year.
On Saturday 18 May 2024, there will be a mystery hunt. A special chest has arrived at the castle, whose secret attracts wizards, dwarves, elves and other magical creatures from near and far. The Emperor has had enough of this, so on Saturday 18 May, he invites everyone who dares to attempt to solve the mystery to try their hand at certain challenges. Those who are not satisfied with this task alone will be able to tackle a range of other mysteries and puzzles.
On Sunday19 May 2024, at the open day, visitors will have an opportunity to explore all of the corners of the castle and view the permanent and temporary exhibitions free of charge. The medieval camp in the Castle Park will undoubtedly also made a big impression on the day. Everyone who is curious, hungry and eager for the knightly and noble life is warmly invited!
On this day you can join the guided tour Time Machine (for adults in English) at 11.00 am and 1.00 pm. The number of participants in the guided tours is limited. Reservations for guided tours will be accepted until all of the places are filled at the email address: lara.kolar@ljubljanskigrad.si. Each individual can reserve places for up to four people on a guided tour.

We recommend using the funicular railway to visit the events of the 13th Castle Days. During the Castle Days, there will be a single reduced fare for a return ticket for the funicular.
In the case of rain, the Castle Days will be postponed until the second weekend in September: Saturday 7 September and Sunday 8 September 2024. A notice will be published on the Ljubljana Castle website and FB page.
