Open Day
With the Castle Days we traditionally commemorate an important day in the history of the Ljubljana Castle: on 16 May 1905, the then mayor of Ljubljana Ivan Hribar purchased the Ljubljana Castle from the state authorities in the name of the city for 60,200 crowns.
On the anniversary of this event, from 19 to 21 May, we will prepare a colourful free programme of various events at the Ljubljana Castle, suitable for the whole family. On the last day of this year’s Castle Days, Sunday 21 May, we will offer all visitors a free tour of the Ljubljana Castle, including the Viewing Tower, as well as the castle content (the Virtual Castle, the permanent exhibitions Slovenian History and the Puppet Museum). On this day, we also invite visitors to participate in any of the free guided tours.

- 10.00 am: Puppet-Tech – discover puppetry techniques (in Slovenian);
- 11.00 am: Time Machine, from Emona to a City Symbol (in Slovenian and English);
- 12.00 noon: Ljubljana Castle (in Slovenian);

The number of places on the guided tours is limited. Free tickets will be available from 15 May 2017 until all of the places are taken at Ljubljana Castle sales points and the lower funicular station on Krek Square. Each individual is entitled to up to four free tickets.
Meeting point for the guided tours: Info Centre in the Castle Courtyard.
On 21 May, you can visit a Medieval Camp in the Castle Park and the Castle Courtyard (from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm), you can attend the theatre performance The Ljubljana Dragon, Franci to His Friends in the Palatium (at 11.00 am) and the musical performance With Percussion and Song around the World in the Estates Hall (at 4.00 pm).
We recommend using the funicular to visit the Ljubljana Castle. During the Castle Days, there will be a single discounted return ticket for the funicular.
