Between January and April 2017, the concert series A Cappella at the Ljubljana Castle will take place at the Ljubljana Castle. In the pleasant atmosphere of the Estates Hall, you will have an opportunity to hear masters of vocal music who know how to conjure up a genuine musical illusion just with theirs voice, with no additional instrumental accompaniment. At the end of January, we will be treated to the vocal tricks of Italian ensemble Alti & Bassi. In February, we present the a cappella choir Bee Geesus, with an evening dedicated to gospel. In March, there will be a performance by the Slovenian Octet, who this season celebrate their 65th anniversary. Finally, in April, the ensemble Bassless will perform the greatest pop hits in a cappella guise. Come and listen to vocal harmonies on Ljubljana’s highest point – you can’t get any closer to the stars!
Bassless is a Slovenian a cappella group that works in Ljubljana, although its members come from various regions of Slovenia: Upper Carniola, Primorska, Styria and Carinthia. Bassless has been active on the music scene since April 2013 and performs arrangements of a wide range of musical genres (from pop, rock, disco and dance music, to funk, jazz and blues) as well as original compositions, of course. The group’s distinctive and recognisable musical expression, which often contains interesting features from popular and rhythmic techno music, is seasoned with elements of melancholic jazz, thus satisfying even the keenest ear of music connoisseurs. The musicians usually adorn the selected songs in their own vocal guise, but here and there they still like to surprise audiences with a classical a cappella arrangement. In February this year, Baseless was nominated for the prestigious American CARA Award for their latest music video Stuck (Caro Emerald). The members of Bassless are: Karin Možina, Nastja Vodenik, Matej Virtič, Klemen Brezavšček and Christian Virtič.
