Between January and April 2017, the concert series A Cappella at the Ljubljana Castle will take place at the Ljubljana Castle. In the pleasant atmosphere of the Estates Hall, you will have an opportunity to hear masters of vocal music who know how to conjure up a genuine musical illusion just with theirs voice, with no additional instrumental accompaniment. At the end of January, we will be treated to the vocal tricks of Italian ensemble Alti & Bassi. In February, we present the a cappella choir Bee Geesus, with an evening dedicated to gospel. In March, there will be a performance by the Slovenian Octet, who this season celebrate their 65th anniversary. Finally, in April, the ensemble Bassless will perform the greatest pop hits in a cappella guise. Come and listen to vocal harmonies on Ljubljana’s highest point – you can’t get any closer to the stars!
With its exclusively vocal performances, the choir Bee Geesus is known for the contagious energy with which it thrills audiences throughout Slovenia and abroad. Instead of instrumental accompaniment, the choir includes beatboxing and elements of vocal play in its arrangements, which guarantees it a unique place amongst gospel choirs. However, the only choir of its kind in Slovenia is not just a promoter of gospel music. The point of its activities lies mainly in spreading the joyful message of gospel music, and it pursues this mission largely through appearances at various charity concerts, events and festivals. Bee Geesus is the initiator and leader of the project Gospel d. d., the largest annual concert of gospel music in Slovenia, where Slovenian performers of black spiritual and popular music come together to raise funds for children who are victims of violence, etc. In December 2009, the choir represented Slovenia in the global charity project Starbucks Love Project, which is recorded in the Guinness Book of Records. Every second year, Bee Geesus participates in the German festival Gospelkirchentag, the largest international festival of gospel music in Europe. With their fresh and unique approach to gospel music, the singers thrilled audiences in Karlsruhe in September 2010, in Dortmund in June 2012, and in Kassel in September 2014. On each occasion, there was a great deal of interest in the Slovenian gospel choir amongst German audiences and media, as well as an excellent response from critics. In 2015, the choir participated in the highly successful weekly show produced by Austrian national television ORF Die große Chance der Chor (A Great Opportunity for Choirs). The choir operates under the artistic direction of Mate Virtič, one of the most prominent representatives of a cappella music in Slovenia.
