Ljubljana Castle Jazz Club presents a concert by Maj Kavšek Quintet, a band of five musicians united by the exploration of original music and the common goal of creating a recognizable sound expression. In May 2023, the quintet released its debut album Galaterna. The album is a collection of compositions that draw from diverse sources – from jazz tradition to contemporary harmonies and textures. The music pays homage to artists who have had a significant influence on Kavšek's musical creation, combining innovative elements with respect for tradition. Maj Kavšek (2000) is a trumpeter and composer born in Ljubljana. During his academic career, he has collaborated with prominent professors and musicians such as Philip Dizack, Nate Wooley, Ralph Alessi, Greg Cohen, Reggie Moore, James Robert Rotondi and others. He has performed with the RTV Slovenia Big Band several times as a soloist and substitute. In 2023, he received an invitation to collaborate with the Euroradio Jazz Orchestra in Lithuania and with the Fame’s Institute Orchestra in North Macedonia. In 2025, he won 3rd place at the Jazzon composer award, and was selected as a resident artist at the Jazz Cerkno festival.
