Maja Babič Košir: Courage Mon Amour

from 25. Sep to 16. Nov 2025, from 9:00 to 20:00, Pentagonal Tower, Ljubljana Castle

Discussions about architecture, design and the conceptual meaning of space are becoming increasingly important in contemporary art. They touch upon ideas of local character, heritage, neighbourly relations, urban life, public spaces and the role of art in them, as well as artistic and production spaces. For several years, the RAVNIKAR Projects initiative has been dedicated to exploring intersections between architecture and contemporary art with experimental exhibitions and projects that interpret space and architectural heritage through the eyes of visual artists.

In autumn 2025, the exhibition series will move to the Ljubljana Castle. In the historical ambience of the Pentagonal Tower, a new spatial installation by artist Maja Babič Košir will be presented under the curatorial direction of Laura Amann, an architect, curator and lecturer who has been working at the intersection of art and architecture for more than a decade. Among other roles, Amann has served as a curator at Kunsthalle Wien, a co-curator of the Vienna platform Significant Other, which is dedicated to dialogue between art and space, and a lecturer at the Technical University of Vienna. Her work is characterised by interdisciplinary approaches, critical reflection on institutions, and a deep interest in the material and symbolic dimensions of space.

Maja Babič Košir (b. 1978) is a visual artist who works at the intersection of sculpture, installation and poetic spatial narrative. After studying sculpture at the Ljubljana Academy of Fine Arts and Design, she continued her artistic journey by studying and working abroad. Her practice is based on the use of found, inherited and abandoned objects, which she transforms into new artistic entities through sensitive creative intervention, exploring themes of personal and collective memory, transience, vulnerability and intimacy.

The central theme of the present exhibition is love as the most fundamental, yet most complex human emotion. The artist intertwines personal stories and the material past. By transforming objects and placing them in a new spatial and emotional environment, she explores transience, aging, the fragility of existence and loss. Within the specific historical framework of the Ljubljana Castle, Courage Mon Amour delves into the themes of time, memory and the courage to love.
