In recent years, the festival of contemporary original and ethno music Godibodi has become a synonym for quality Slovenian original and ethno music, and for a comprehensive concert experience. This year’s festival will take place in the first week of June at a new location, the Ljubljana Castle, where a series of fresh musical projects will be presented. Three ensembles will appear on the first day of the festival: ŠLAJN, BUH and Nula Kelvina.
ŠLAJN (in English tench or doctor fish) is a fish that thrives in the murky, muddy waters of Lake Cerknica, with their low levels of oxygen. It is named after the autochthonous folk-country group Šlajn, which also inhabits the impenetrable and suffocating wetlands of Slovenian music, as the clear waters of the mainstream will probably never sweep the group away. Perhaps this is due to the overly personal lyrics, or perhaps the group’s unfortunate humour or their failed attempts to imitate the virtuosi of country music? We don’t know. We do know, however, that these four men are unable to tell their stories differently, even if they wanted to.
Who are these magnificent four men who hide behind the name of a slimy fish? Singer and guitarist Sašo Kovačič sings the most beautiful verses that the group is capable of to his wife at home, in an attempt to make up for the things he does wrong without realising. Goran Kovačević, the only truly organised and systematic member of the band, provides the rhythm with his drum set. Klemen Krajc, a good-natured grump, grumbles on his bass – just like he grumbles when his cowboy boot gets stuck in the mud of Lake Cerknica. Gašper Kržmanc, the group’s conceptual leader and creator of everything, maintains the tension in the group worrying about whether the debut album will be finished in time. If the guys did not, together or individually, appear on all of the stages high and low (in combination with the groups Nula Kelvina and Smaal Tokk, with the Slovenian Armed Forces Orchestra), the group Šlajn would have no hope.
Nonetheless, Šlajn, Celinka Publishing House, the Godibodi Institute, and a growing number of fans maintain hope and trust in the group’s music, and they’re damn well right!
Sašo Kovačič – voice, guitar
Gašper Kržmanc – guitar, banjo
Klemen Krajc – bass
Goran Kovačević – drums
BUH is a completely fresh group playing the original music of multi-instrumentalist Uroš Buh. A native of Ljubljana, Buh regularly enriches numerous Slovenian groups as a drummer and vocalist, including Zaklonišče prepeva, Same babe, Natriletno kolobarjenje s praho, Relight, Boštjan Gombač and Kradljivci časa. On this occasion, he has decided to step into the foreground and has brought together the outstanding musicians with whom he has recorded ten new songs in the studio Lotos Music in Šentjernej. In June 2018, BUH will release its debut album of ten songs with the Celinka Publishing House. On the album, Uroš Buh presents himself for the first time as the writer of all of the texts, music and arrangements, as well as being the main vocalist. The disc was mixed in Croatia under the guidance of the master of analogue production Hrvoje Nikšić, and was mastered by the main producer of Pink Floyd and David Gilmour, Andy Jackson from Tube Mastering.

Vid Drašler – drums
Jošt Drašler – bass guitar, voice
Mario Babojelič – guitar
Ambrož Božiček – Rhodes, Hammond

The group NULA KELVINA is before a new venture: nine fresh songs that will be released on a new CD entitled Kdo za vraga so Nula Kelvina. An unconventional view of psycho-social and intimate relationships is already a constant of the group and is reflected in the provocative, slightly venomous, but nonetheless lyrical texts with a sprinkling of word games. In terms of genre, the music written by Klemen Kotar, Gašper Kržmanc and Marko Boh is somewhere between a sharp rock poetics and original pop approaches, with a touch of jazz, and at times even sounding like chanson. In this way, the members of the band Nula Kelvina are able to create a happy symbiosis of music, texts and arrangements enriched with the saxophone, the accordion and strummed instruments such as the banjo and the ukulele. On this occasion, the group will be joined by Ana Marija Mitić, with whom they collaborated on stage in their previous project, the music-theatre performance Levak na luni. With her velvety poignant, cabaret-coloured vocals, Ana brings a dimension of freshness and spontaneity to the group. They will have an opportunity to show just how talented they are at their concert at the Godibodi Festival.
