Jazz singer Mia Žnidarič was one of the first singers in Slovenia to ensure that a wide range of jazz standards were translated into Slovenian. She then began to set the poetry of renowned Slovenian poets to music and connect with so-called American folk music. She has recorded a series of four albums of jazz standards and three of Slovenian poetry, and has won five Zlati Petelin (Golden Rooster) Awards.
Mia further promotes respect for language and an immense love of poetry. In an environment and a business that increasingly tend towards “Americanisation” and often incomprehensible defacement, Mia’s love for the Slovenian language leads her to sing with perfect pronunciation.
The album Z dotikom, which was released last year, is Mia Žnidarič’s fourteenth album. It is a rounded work that brings together and reflects the diversity of her musical career. Traces of Ella Fitzgerald can be heard in Mia’s jazz renditions, while Joni Mitchell echoes in her folk melodies. When she swings, we can hear her smile, her refreshing, mischievous, playful lightness, but she also knows how to cloak us in the dark, almost desperate tragedy of lost love, such as in the Slovenian folk song Zrelo je žito.
Musicians: Mia Žnidarič – voice Steve Klink – piano David Jarh – trumpet Peter Smrdel – double bass
The concert begins at 8.00 pm; entry to the hall is possible from 7.30 pm onwards. To attend the concert, we recommend using the funicular railway, which operates until 10.00 pm on the evening of each concert. The ticket price includes a return journey on the funicular railway.
