Jure Pukl’s latest album Broken Circles was released early in 2020 by the London label Whirlwind Recordings and is his eleventh album. The music from the album was presented for the first time in January last year at the celebrated Winter Jazz Festival in New York. His group then embarked on a tour of Slovenia, Russia, Spain and Kosovo, which ended just before the pandemic.

Jure Pukl’s successful international career has led him to the very peak of musical creativity. He performs at festivals in cities such as Pori, Moers, Moscow, Cairo, Santiago, Chile, Vienna, Berlin and Tokyo, appearing at the Blue Note, Jazz Standard, The Jazz Gallery, The Vortex, Porgy & Bess, Bimhuis and may other prestigious venues. Pukl collaborates with artists from a broad musical spectrum, including Vijay Iyer, Darius Jones, Esperanza Spalding, George Lewis, Nasheet Waits, Dave Liebman, Han Bennink, Gerald Cleaver, Joel Ross, E. J. Strickland, Jeff Tain Watts and others.

Jure Pukl is also active as a teacher, producer and organiser. He inspires hundreds of young musicians around the world with his Velenje Creative Jazz Clinic.

The album Broken Circles is marked by a modern-day insensitivity. “We’ve become numb,” says Pukl. “We post the incidents we witness on social media and then spread positive thoughts, but this is too little. I’m still an optimist,” he adds, “I believe things will improve.”
