Slovak Jazz violinist and composer Petra Onderuf, known to audiences worldwide as a performer of world music with the band Wild Strings Trio, is presenting her new jazz album. In her compositions she is connecting musical traditions in unusual ways, stretching the usual jazz paradigms to include rhythmic and melodic ideas from the multiple strands of world music that she has exposed herself to. Rooted in Jazz harmonies and improvisation, building on her eclectic use of the violin –itself bridging the gap between Classical and Jazz. The album features collaborations with exceptional Slovenian musicians: Rok Zalokar on piano, Luka Dobnikar on double bass, Aleš Zorec on drums, and guest artists Jure Pukl on soprano saxophone and trumpeter Gašper Selko.
Petra got her skills in jazz violin and composition at the conservatory in Klagenfurt and further developed her talents at ethno and jazz workshops across Europe. Her composition for big band, "Something in Between," was selected for the concert of new compositions by the HRT Big Band in Zagreb.
