PIKNIKONCERT: Brina

09. Aug 2018 from 18:00, Moat, Ljubljana Castle

PikniKoncert is a family gathering with good music, food and drinks, and at the same time a different way of spending leisure time, with the experience of quality culture intertwining with relaxed socialising and ecological awareness.

After two successful festival summers in Tivoli Park, this year the concerts are spreading to the Castle plateau, beside the walls of the Ljubljana Castle in the moat.

In the summer months, on Thursday afternoons and one Friday afternoon, you are invited to escape from the summer heat to Tivoli Park (under the pine trees near the Tivoli Promenade) and to the Ljubljana Castle. Lay out a blanket on the grass and have a bite to eat while listening to concerts of ethno and folk music. The excellent music from all over the world will include traditional instruments and various singing techniques. Bring full picnic baskets, blankets and toys, as well as children, friends and dogs, and join us for a great time!

On the second Thursday in August, there will be a concert by the versatile artist Brina Vogelnik, singer, musician, puppet animator and designer. She performed for the first time as a singer with the band Šišenska bajka at the festival Druga godba (1999). This opened the door to her first album, Graščakinja (2002), which she recorded with String.si Vlada Batiste, gaining her a Golden Bird Award. With the band Brina (made up of Brina Vogelnik, Jelena Ždrale, Luka Ropret, Drago Ivanuša, Nino de Gleria and Blaž Celarec), she subsequently released the albums Mlado leto (2004), Pasja legenda (2006) and Slečena koža (2011), establishing a prominent position on the world music map. Pasja legenda spent three months among the top ten albums of the World Music Europe chart, and the song Poljanska balada was nominated for song of the year on the BBC World Service, edited by Charlie Gillet. In 2009, Brina released an album of children’s songs entitled Bisergora, which she followed up with the concert show BibaMica.

PikniKoncert is organised by the House of Children and Art in cooperation with Tourism Ljubljana and the Ljubljana Castle. The programmes of the House of Children and Art are co-financed by the City of Ljubljana.
