St Gregory’s Day: tangoX - milonga

Folk tradition says that on 12 March, St Gregory’s Day, birds find a mate, which is why it was once considered the first spring day. At the Ljubljana Castle, on this festival of spring and lovers, we have prepared a St Gregory’s Day concert and milonga.

The members of tangoX are Johanna Schmidt, Bart Rademakers, Stefan Berger and Stefan Kremer, all of whom have made a name for themselves in the music world in various formations. All four have an affinity for the creative work of the “reinventor” of the tango, Astor Piazzolla, a pioneer who constructed a bridge between his own music and traditional jazz. The musical spectrum of tangox includes many original compositions inspired by the sounds of the tango, as well as the classics of Piazzolla, Gardel, Mores and Troilo. Their characteristic interpretations bring an interweaving of “Piazzolla” rhythms, jazz improvisations and tango sounds, creating sad and bitter, yet impassioned and erotic rhythms.

The performance will thrill listeners with its harmonious musical interaction and execution, as well as with the genuine playfulness of the musicians on stage.

A milonga is a social event at which the Argentine tango is danced. It is one of the three musical-expressive groups of the Argentine tango (milonga, waltz, tango).
A special code of behaviour is observed at a milonga, ensuring that the dance is a pleasant experience for all participants. Thus, one is invited to dance with a look (cabeceo), while the direction of the dance (ronda) is always respected.
