Maintenance and Renovation Work
Between February and April 2024, renovation and essential maintenance work will be carried out on the Ljubljana Castle and the funicular railway. We thank visitors for your understanding and patience, and kindly request that you follow the safety instructions.
From 12 February until approximately the end of April, the main access to the Ljubljana Castle, the entrance bridge, will be closed to visitors. As part of the investment project, we will restore the reinforced concrete structures of the bridge in order to ensure its original load-bearing capacity. During the renovation, two alternative entrances to the Castle Courtyard will be available: the first is from the castle parking area via a bridge over the moat and through the Pentagonal Tower, and the second is through the upper funicular station. These two access ways will also serve as exits from the Castle Courtyard.
From 12 February until 14 March, an update of the content and technical equipment of the Virtual Castle will be carried out. During the renovation of the Virtual Castle, it will be possible to view the previous twelve-minute film projection at an alternative location, in the Upper Lapidary. The screening will be available in Slovenian with English subtitles.
Due to a regular inspection, which is carried out in accordance with the applicable legislation, as well as an overhaul, the funicular railway will not be in operation from 26 February until 19 March. During this time, a bus will run on the route Krek Square–Ljubljana Castle– Krek Square. The bus will depart every 30 minutes and every 15 minutes on weekends. From 26 February until approximately the beginning of April, the restaurant Gostilna na Gradu will be closed for visitors due to renovation works. After the renovation, visitors will be able to enjoy an even more varied range of tastes and more pleasant culinary experiences behind the castle walls.
