9th Castle Days

Open Day

19. May from 9:00 to 20:00, Ljubljana Castle

With the Castle Days, we traditionally remember an important day in the history of the Ljubljana Castle: on 16 May 1905, the then Ljubljana Mayor Ivan Hribar purchased the Ljubljana Castle from the state authorities on behalf of the city for 60,200 crowns.

On the anniversary of this event, from 17 to 19 May, a diverse programme of events for the whole family will take place at the Ljubljana Castle. On Sunday 19 May, we will open the doors of the castle widely and offer visitors free viewing of the Ljubljana Castle, including the Viewing Tower, the Virtual Castle, the permanent exhibition Slovenian History and the Puppet Museum. We invite visitors to join us on this day and attend one of the free guided tours.

Guided Tour Times:
Time Machine, from Emona to a City Symbol (for adults, in Slovenian and English), at 12.00 noon (SOLD OUT Slovenian and English) and 2.00 pm (SOLD OUT Slovenian and English);
Guided Tour of the Exhibition Mighty Guardians of the Past (for adults), at 11.00 am;

On the Open Day, you can visit the Medieval Camp (from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm) in the Castle Park, test your skills in axe throwing, view the theatre performance Princess Zala Turns into a Frog in the Hribar Hall (at 11.00 am), and take part in the Castle Workshops in the Dragon’s Den.
