12th Castle Days

20. May 2023 - 21. May 2023

Today’s image of the Ljubljana Castle would certainly be completely different if it had not been purchased from the state authorities on 16 May 1905 for the sum of 60,200 crowns by the then mayor of Ljubljana Ivan Hribar, thus saving the castle from further decline. With this purchase, the castle became the property of the city of Ljubljana. The visionary mayor had big plans for the castle, which are being realised more than a century later as the castle has become an important cultural centre of the Slovenian capital.

However, the events of the early twentieth century were not the only turning point for the castle. From the very beginning, both the castle and the Castle Hill have been marked by a dynamic and often very turbulent history. Each period is unique, but one thing they all share is that people have always loved to entertain themselves at the castle, including eating and drinking well. Would you, too, like to experience a small part of the everyday life of our ancestors?

Visit us and experience the lively pulse of events above the city!

We recommend using the funicular railway to visit the events of the 12th Castle Days. During the Castle Days, there will be a single reduced price for a return ticket for the funicular railway.

In case of rain, the Castle Days will be postponed to the second weekend in September: Saturday 9 September and Sunday 10 September 2023. A postponement notice will be published on the website and social media of the Ljubljana Castle.
