Duo Ingolfsson-Stoupel (Iceland, France)

26. Jun from 20:30, Hribarjeva dvorana, Ljubljana Castle

The duo was created from a desire to discover new paths to the intimate atmosphere of the violin-piano recital. The musicians share a passion for the music of the twentieth century, shaping programmes in which they explore fascinating connections between composers, history and the power of musical communication. The repertoire’s neglect of many visionary twentieth-century composers is associated with their artistic and life fates, which were impacted by the First and Second World Wars. The musicians present their discoveries in performance and recording projects, endeavouring to re-establish these key musical creations in the repertoire and install them as an integral part of concert life.

Judith Ingolfsson and Vladimir Stoupel are established soloists committed to a passionate search for new paths and intimate atmospheres in chamber music. As well as recording for renowned publishing houses, the duo regularly participates in the most prestigious concert cycles throughout the world and at numerous international festivals.

Judith Ingolfsson and Vladimir Stoupel are the artistic directors of the festival Aigues-Vives en Musiques in southern France, having founded it in 2009. They also direct the festival The Last Summer Rose in Berlin, and since 2017 have overseen the Berlin concert cycles Duo Plus (at Mendelssohn-Remise) and Wednesday at the Institute (at Institut Français). In the 2018/19 academic year, Ingolfsson and Stoupel will in be resident at the Peabody Conservatory of Music.
