Since its first edition in 2008, the Godibodi festival of contemporary original and ethnic music has been a synonym for quality music and a complete concert experience that constantly opens up space for fresh and not yet established Slovenian music. Over the past years, this unique musical project has been guided by the versatile musician and artistic director of the festival Janez Dovč and produced by the Ljubljana Castle. During this time, it has brought together many top Slovenian musicians. This year’s sixteenth edition of the festival will take place in the first days of June with concerts by the following bands: Vsa and Kristijan Krajnčan, Barfolk, Ědna, Vudlenderji, Jani Hace and guests, Leopold I. and Drügi
The first day of the festival will feature two bands: Vsa and Kristijan Krajnčan, Barfolk
Vsa(All) is the stage name of singer, instrumentalist and composer Veronika Kumar. The concept expresses the multiplicity of beings that can reside in a single being. The inspiration for Vsa’s album, which will be premiered at the Godibodi festival, is derived from the idea of separation. This is reflected in the music, which was created in collaboration with Kristijan Krajnčan. Through the process of searching for her sonic self, Veronika Kumar began to ask herself: separation or fusion? On the path between the two, fullness within limitation emerged, from tenderness to distortion, from screaming to melodiousness.
Barfolk Can the dance music otherwise known as “balfolk” also be interesting for a seated audience in a bar or concert hall? This is where the name Barfolk comes from. The seeds of the collaboration with the English accordionist Hannah James were sown when our car broke down in the middle of a German highway. We passed the time together with our instruments and realised that we share a similar love for beautiful melodies and the musical dialects of the regions of Central and Western Europe. In addition to our own compositions, we like to add some gems from contemporary composers of this music, and we also flirt with Celtic and Scandinavian musical languages. On this occasion, violinist Nika Škodič has also contributed some original compositions. I am happy that I have managed to pass on my love for balfolk music to the younger generations, as well. Do you like music that is simple and beautiful? Come to the concert and let’s share the emotions of serenade and dance.
