Marko Črnčec is one of Slovenia’s most renowned contemporary musicians and one of the country’s celebrated “exports”, currently living in New York. He has collaborated with some of the big names of the world jazz scene, such as Bob Mintzer, Seamus Blake, Eric Alexander, Michael Phillip Mossman, Ron McClure, Marcus Gilmore and many others. To date, he has released four albums, all of which have met with an excellent international critical response. His third album Devotion (Whirlwind Recordings, 2014) was selected among the twenty best jazz recordings of 2014 according to one of the world’s biggest jazz publications All About Jazz.

Marko’s latest album Ruthenia, released on the well-known Spanish label Fresh Sound, New Talent in April 2017, proves that many musicians today are not limited to a particular musical genre. Ruthenia is a suite composed for jazz quartet and chamber orchestra as a retrospective of five Russian composers of the twentieth century: Igor Stravinsky, Dmitri Shostakovich, Sergei Prokofiev, Alexander Scriabin and Sergei Rachmaninoff. The album is the result of Marko’s love for the music of these great musical geniuses.
