9th Castle Days

Medieval Camp

19. May from 10:00 to 18:00, Ljubljana Castle

On the last day of the Castle Days, when there will be a medieval camp in the Castle Park and the Castle Courtyard, visitors will enjoy an unforgettable medieval experience.

Medieval crafts and other professions will be presented; visitors will be able to try their hand at archery, sword fighting, medieval social games and other skills; they will have an opportunity to be photographed on the ruler’s throne or in the stocks, and to have their palms read; more daring visitors will be able to try the torture wheel; and children will have a chance to try wielding a sword. Despite all of the other diverse happenings, visitors simply must not miss the Emperor’s procession and tribute and the knights’ tournament, where we will witness the genuine sword fighting of knights. Music will be provided by the group Gallenberg Vagantes, while a humorous atmosphere will be ensured by the jester’s camp and performances by Teater Cizamo. Events will be further enhanced by the Ljubljana Castle activity leaders, dressed in medieval costumes.

Participants: The Otočec Knights’ Society, The Celjani Medieval Group, The Order of the King’s Eagle Medieval Society, The Society of the Golden Spurs, The Slaughter Knight Cultural Society, The Medieval Tenants Society, The Galiarda Cultural Society, juggler group Čupakabra, Teater Cizamo, Gallenberg Vagantes, The BB Theatre Cultural Society, Manufaktura mojster Janez, Kirada the palm reader, and the Ljubljana Castle activity leaders.

• 1.00 pm Coin Search – Otočec Knights’ Society (Castle Park);
• 1.30 pm Knights’ Dual – Slaughter Knight Cultural Society and Knight School – Medieval Tenants Society (Castle Courtyard);
• 2.00 pm Rainbow Castle: Juggling Happy Play - Čupakabra, juggling group (Castle Courtyard);
• 3.00 pm Procession and Tribute to the Emperor, Knights’ Tournament – Order of the King’s Eagle, and dance performance and workshop – Galiarda Cultural Society (Castle Park);
• 3.30 pm Axe-Throwing Tournament (Castle Park);
• 4.00 pm From a Horseshoe to a Bee – A Historical Travelogue – Čupakabra, juggling group (Castle Courtyard);
• 5.00 pm Knights’ Dual – Slaughter Knight Cultural Society, (Castle Courtyard).

On the Open Day, you can enjoy free admission to castle content and participate in one of the free guided tours (from 11.00 am to 4.00 pm). In addition, you can view the theatre performance Princess Zala Turns into a Frog in the Hribar Hall (at 11.00 am), and take part in the Castle Workshops in the Dragon’s Den.
A culinary offer will also be included in the medieval happenings.

We recommend using the funicular railway to visit the Ljubljana Castle. For the duration of the Castle Days, there will be a uniform discounted price for a return ticket for the funicular.
