Nekrasov Orchestra of Russian Folk Instruments (Russia)

08. Aug from 20:30, Castle Courtyard, Ljubljana Castle

The Nekrasov Orchestra of Russian Folk Instruments, which operates under the auspices of Russian Radio and Television and is considered a national treasure, was founded in December 1945. It has been led by excellent Russian conductors, including Vladimir Fedoseyev and Nikolai Nekrasov, after whom the orchestra is named.

Andrej Shlyahkov has been the permanent conductor of the orchestra since 2012, and Aleksander Mashkovich has served as its artistic director since 2015. The orchestra performs music of various styles, periods and genres. Its repertoire includes Russian folk music, works by contemporary Russian composers, Russian and foreign classical works, as well as modern compositions. Many of the works recorded by the orchestra have been included in the Golden Collection of Russian Radio and Television. The orchestra performs with the best performers on various musical instruments, as well as with prominent opera soloists and inventive young musicians. The orchestra’s key activities include concert performances in the halls of the Moscow Philharmonic Society, participation in music festivals, and tours throughout Russia and abroad. The Nekrasov Orchestra is distinguished by its clear yet distinctive performance style. The warmth and melodiousness of the strings, the rich expression of the solo instruments, and the performance sincerity combined with highly perfected virtuosity blend into an unmistakable essence that is the orchestra’s sonic hallmark.

Conductor: Andrej Šljačkov
Solo performance: Nadežda Tokareva, violin
