Svetlana Jakimovska-Rodić: Woman in the Forest

from 27. Jan to 08. May 2022, from 9:00 to 19:00, Pentagonal Tower, Ljubljana Castle

With her spatial installation Woman in the Forest, Svetlana Jakimovska-Rodić completes a cycle that began in 2019 with the exhibition Made in the Forest and continued with a series of works entitled Man in the Forest. In this cycle, the artist explores man’s natural environment and our relationship to it. It is not surprising that the forest was chosen as the connecting thread of the cycle, as forests are man’s natural source of life, our lungs, a bulwark against climate change, the cradle of indigenous fauna and flora, a place of rest and contemplation, and more. With the series Made in the Forest, the artist placed herself in the role of a mediator between the microworld of the forest and the viewer. In the series Man in the Forest, she explores man’s attitude towards the forest, which is typically functionalist. The final series, Woman in the Forest, has an intimate origin, which, with the introduction of light and consequently colour, introduces the dimension that Woman brings to the darkness of the forest/world.

Exhibition curator: MA Breda Škrjanec
