Ljubljana Castle Jazz Club welcomes the Guinean master Sekou Kouyaté, the inventor of the electrified kora, a 21-string West African instrument, and widely regarded as one of the world’s greatest virtuosos of this remarkable instrument.
Deeply rooted in West African musical traditions and influenced by contemporary blues, soul, funk, and jazz, Kouyaté bridges tradition and modern global music. His astonishing playing speed and innovative use of guitar effects pedals have earned him the nickname “The African Jimi Hendrix.” He is well known to Slovenian audiences, having performed extensively in the country with a Slovenian backing band and recorded two albums here: Dia and Live in MB.
