The group Lusitanian Ghosts is coming to Ljubljana Castle Jazz Club bringing with it the ancient Portuguese chordophones, or violas, and promoting the sounds of these traditional folk instruments in the 21st century. The artistic collective transforms these traditional folk violas into rock'n'roll songs, writing from a socio-political perspective about building a better world and creating music that comes from both the heart and the mind. The project blends indie songwriting with traditional Portuguese instruments such as the Beiroa, Campaniça, Braguesa, Terceirense, and Amarantina guitars—or violas, as they are known in Portugal—each with its own distinctive arrangements and string tunings. Following the release of three LP albums, the collective recorded a very special live album with the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra, combining the sound of ancient folk instruments with the grandeur of a symphony orchestra and thus continuing the spirit of musical experimentation that lies at the heart of the project.
