A Three-Day Romantic Experience

On a green hill in the middle of the city, behind ancient walls, there is a rich world of historical, cultural, culinary and entertainment experiences. What can you expect?

During your three-day break you can learn about the castle’s rich history, treat yourself to the culinary delights of Slovenian cuisine prepared in the special castle way, enjoy a picnic with selected local delicacies and taste the castle’s wine in the magical Castle Vineyard. While wandering around Ljubljana you will come to understand why our capital has the Slovenian word for ‘love’ (ljubezen) in its name. You will be accommodated in either the Friderik or the Eleonora studio apartment, where the past goes hand in hand with the present, and start each new day with castle coffee and croissants in the cosy living room of the Castle Café.

How does the three-day break unfold?

Your three-day experience in the green oasis above the city begins in the afternoon on the bridge in front of the castle entrance. After an introductory greeting and a short presentation of the castle, the castle guide takes you along a tree-lined avenue to Šance, a fascinating structure created by one of the greatest Slovenian architects, Jože Plečnik. A forest path then leads you to the Castle Vineyard, where 1,050 vines of white and red varieties of castle wine have been thriving since 2016. The guide will reveal which varieties are growing and why they are in this location. After enjoying these historical and cultural attractions, it is time to relax. Nestle comfortably among the castle’s grape vines and reach into a picnic basket with local delicacies carefully selected for you by master chef Igor Jagodic from the castle restaurant Strelec, which boasts a Michelin star. Toast each other with castle wine and, after a pleasant break, head back to the castle with your guide. The guided tour ends in the Castle Courtyard, next to the castle grape vine, which is descendant of the oldest grape vine in the world located in the Lent district of Maribor.

After spending the night in your Na Stolbi studio apartment and enjoying morning coffee with croissants and a view of the Castle Courtyard from the Castle Café, you will have an opportunity to climb the Viewing Tower, which offers the most beautiful view of the city and its surroundings, and to learn a little more about the castle’s history. Perhaps there will even be time for a game of Escape Castle. Round off your acquaintance with the city and the castle with an introduction to Slovenian cuisine by enjoying lunch at the castle restaurant Gostilna na Gradu. From there head to the city, where you can enjoy a pleasant walk along the Ljubljanica River. The second night is also spent in your Na Stolbi studio apartment.
