Performing Civil Wedding Ceremonies – Outside the Official Venues and Days
Performing Civil Wedding Ceremonies – Outside the Official Venues and Days
You can also arrange a wedding ceremony at the Ljubljana Castle outside the official days listed above.
The options are on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and several castle halls of various sizes are available. The day must be confirmed by the Ljubljana Administrative Unit, and the availability of halls must be confirmed by the Ljubljana Castle. In this case, a fee of €170.00 must be paid to the Ljubljana Administrative Unit.
The hall rental prices can be viewed on the Ljubljana Castle website.
The Ljubljana Castle is an official venue of the Ljubljana Administrative Unit for performing wedding ceremonies, which take place on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays in the White and Blue Halls, each of which can accommodate a maximum of 30 people. If you would like to invite more guests, or if you prefer to get married on a different day and/or in a different venue, it is possible to rent one of the other castle halls for the wedding ceremony, on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
In order to make it easier for you to organise a wedding ceremony, here is some useful information about the procedure itself:
Step 1: Once the wedding couple have set a date and established an approximate number of guests, they can determine whichvenue they would like the wedding ceremony to take place in. When renting outdoor locations (the Castle Vineyard or beneath the Castle Bridge), it is necessary to consider the possibility of bad weather and select an alternative covered or closed space as a backup venue, as the ceremony will take place regardless of the weather.
Step 2: We will then check the availability of the selected venue on the proposed date and verify whether the Ljubljana Administrative Unit can perform the wedding ceremony. In order to perform the wedding ceremony, a registrar and an authorised person are required. These are provided by the Ljubljana Administrative Unit.
Step 3: After confirming the date, we will prepare a written consent with which the wedding couple can register the event at the Ljubljana Administrative Unit. A date for registering the marriage can be obtained using the form available on the website. The event must be registered at least 30 days before the date of the wedding ceremony.
On the agreed date for registration, the couple should report to the Ljubljana Administrative Unit at the counter of the Civil Registry Office of the Department for Counters and Local Offices (Tobačna ulica 5, 1000 Ljubljana), on the ground floor. The official hours of the Ljubljana Administrative Unit for registration are Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8.00 am to 6.00 pm, Wednesdays from 8.00 am to 7.00 pm, and Fridays from 8.00 am to 2.00 pm. Based on the registration, the wedding couple will receive a decision confirming the ceremony (date, time and location) by email. On the basis of the issued decision, a fee of €170.00 must be paid to the Ljubljana Administrative Unit, and the cost of renting the selected venue must be paid to the Ljubljana Castle. Once the registration document has been issued, it is possible to begin preparations for the event. During the preparations, we will be glad to offer advice and assist with the organisation and execution of the event.
Step 4: On the chosen date, as confirmed by the Ljubljana Administrative Unit, the wedding couple, together with any witnesses and guests, proceed to the marriage ceremony at the Ljubljana Castle at the agreed time. All that remains is to enjoy the day...
Access to the Ljubljana Castle
In order to make it easier for you to organise your wedding ceremony, please consider the following options for accessing the Ljubljana Castle.
- At the Ljubljana Castle, 40 paid parking places are available, one of which is reserved for vehicles of people with reduced mobility or disabled people.
- The Ljubljana Castle can be accessed by funicular railway. We recommend purchasing tickets in advance via the website. In case there is queue at the funicular station, we recommend that you come to the castle early so that you can arrive on time for the ceremony. The numerous events taking place simultaneously at the Ljubljana Castle can affect the occupancy of the funicular railway. It is therefore also worth considering the option of coming to the castle by taxi.
Gathering Point
Regardless of your selected means of transport, we recommend that you arrive at the Ljubljana Castle at least 15 minutes before the start of the wedding ceremony. Please wait with your guests in the Castle Park (by the parking area). A security guard will escort you to the wedding hall in good time. For the elderly and people with mobility impairments, access to most of the halls is possible by elevator. Pets are not allowed in the halls.
Execution of the Event
In the area in front of the hall, the wedding couple will be met by the registrar, who is obliged to officially verify the identity of the wedding couple and any witnesses. The wedding couple and witnesses must have personal documents with them. The registrar will then provide information about the wedding protocol and the course of the wedding ceremony.
Together with the witnesses, the wedding couple enter the hall to the sounds of the wedding march. The ceremony is led by the registrar and an authorised person from the Ljubljana Administrative Unit, who perform the official part of the marriage ceremony after the ceremonial address. The wedding ceremony lasts up to 20 minutes.
The Ljubljana Castle is a monument of cultural significance, so it is not permitted to bring and serve food and drinks in the area of the Ljubljana Castle and the Castle Park. Throwing rice and confetti is not allowed, but soap bubbles are can be used. You are welcome to use the castle surroundings for photography, but we politely request that you also consider other wedding couples and visitors to the castle.
