Since its first edition in 2008, the festival of contemporary original and ethno music Godibodi has been synonymous with quality music and a complete concert experience, continuously opening the space to fresh and not yet established Slovenian music. Under the baton of the artistic director of the festival, versatile musician Janez Dovč, and produced by the Ljubljana Castle, this unique music project has connected many top Slovenian musicians in recent years.

This year’s fifteenth edition of the festival will take place in the first days of June with concerts by the following groups: Popevke in Pravljice with Klara Veteršek and Urška Supej, AKA Neomi, Zajtrk, Noreia with Jani Kovačič, Toj’To and Jazoo.

Two groups will perform on the first day of the festival: Popevke in pravljice, AKA Neomi

Popevke in pravljice (Songs and Fairy Tales) is presented by singer and flutist Klara Veteršek and guitarist Urška Supej, who met while studying jazz in Klagenfurt. The two musicians share a love of music, as well as a passion for Slovenian popular songs, which are closely connected with jazz. Together they created the project Popevke in pravljice, where they first started playing as a duo. In the project, they present evergreen melodies and popular Slovenian compositions in modern duo arrangements. During their time together, they have also started experimenting with original music, which they are intensively adding to their repertoire. In the spring of 2020, they recorded two original compositions in the studio of Radio Slovenia with a larger group of musicians, which they called Rumejts. They have performed at various festivals in Slovenia and Austria (OFAK Festival, Stihi ob steni, Festival Lent, Rdeči Revirji, Trebansko Poletje, Skuštrane in Bradati, Vierteltöne, etc.).

Musicians:
Klara Veteršek – vocals, flute
Urška Supej – guitar
Maša But – vocals, flute
Grega Skaza – saxophones
Janez Krevel – double bass
Žan Hebar – percussion, electronics

Since 2011, AKA Neomi has performed on numerous stages, including at MENT, Waves Vienna in Austria, Westway Lab in Portugal and Eurosonic in the Netherlands, as well as sharing the stage with Roisin Murphy at her concert in Ljubljana. The group was selected among the talent of the network INES (Innovation Network of European Showcases). Under the name Neomi, they gained loyal listeners in Slovenia with songs such as Odpri oči, Čudovito and Poglej. After a long break, songwriter and singer Saša Vipotnik joined forces with guitarist and producer Mario Babojelić. This led to the release of a new album in January 2020 entitled Beautiful Disasters, which garnered a lot of positive reviews both in Slovenia and abroad and was nominated for a Zlato piščal award in the album of the year category. In her songs, Saša Vipotnik reveals her feelings about the world and relationships. She is not afraid to show her vulnerability, thus letting the listener into her intimate space and, with her caressing vocals, encouraging reflection on one’s own inner divisions. Despite this introspective approach, the concert will not only feature melancholy songs. There will be frequent humorous inserts, lively melodies and strong rhythms to lift you to your feet. The epidemic turned out to be a very creative period, resulting in the release of a three-part love story. Love often forces us to look too closely, which makes it impossible for us to see the whole picture. Each published song is therefore accompanied visually by a microscopic image of the details found in the lyrics of the song, e.g., an ideal but withered wedding bouquet. During the corona lockdown, Saša Vipotnik also joined forces with her life partner Eva Taja Cimerman, and together they eased the weight of confinement between four walls in the evenings by creating music. The resulting songs return to the composer’s mother tongue and, in contrast to the last album, in which a feeling of discomfort or impending catastrophe prevailed while listening to the lyrics, the music brings lightness, joy and playfulness. The proven aesthetics of the expressive compositions are accompanied by renowned musical virtuosi, who bring their subtlety and harmony to the music of AKA Neomi, as they are constantly aware of each other’s sonic presence.
