Picnic among the Castle Grapevines
On the sunny side of the Castle Hill lies the Castle Vineyard, a special feature of our capital. Removed from the hustle and bustle of the city, the gentle green areas among more than a thousand grapevines invite you to discover a special culinary and wine experience. On the way to the vineyard and back, you will have an opportunity to learn fascinating facts about the castle’s rich past and the work of Slovenia’s greatest architect, Jože Plečnik.
What to Expect
A guided tour that is more than just a guided tour! A picnic in the beautiful surroundings of the Castle Vineyard, with a pinch of history and art. A guided tour with a special experience that we have carefully prepared for you with a castle guide and a picnic basket filled with local delicacies and castle wine.

In the case of bad weather or an insufficient number of participants, the culinary and wine experience is cancelled. Applicants will be notified by phone about the cancellation of the date and the ticket price will be refunded.
The programme of the tour and special experience
The guided tour starts at the bridge in front of the castle entrance. After an introductory greeting and a short presentation, the castle guide will lead you through the castle’s tree-lined avenue to Šance, a structure designed by Jože Plečnik. There you will learn, among other things, what plans the master architect had for the castle and which plans he managed to implement. The path then continues through the forest to the Castle Vineyard, where 1,050 vines of white and red varieties of castle wine have been growing since 2016. The guide will reveal which varieties are growing and why they are in this location. After just the right dose of history and art, it will be time to relax in the green oasis above the city. Make yourself comfortable and enjoy local delicacies from the picnic basket and a toast with castle wine.
After a pleasant rest, the guide will lead you back to the castle. The guided tour ends in the Castle Courtyard next to the castle grapevine, which is a descendant of the oldest grapevine in the world from the Lent district of Maribor.

Price
The ticket is valid for two persons and includes a guided tour and a basket for two persons. Purchase of tickets: no later than 48 hours before the selected date.
